If you’re new to blogging or haven’t launched a website before, you might be asking yourself, “How do I actually get my website online?”
The answer: website hosting.
An important part of launching any website or blog is the domain name —your virtual “home” for your business. For your shiny new blog to be available to the world, you need someone to “host” that site on the internet.
That’s where website hosting comes in. At its most basic, a website host is like the landlord of your site. Web hosting is how your blog site — along with its files and data — becomes visible for other people to view on the internet. For a small monthly fee, companies like BlueHost “rent” out server space and host your website on the internet. (If you want a deep dive into web hosting, check out our article here on the best web hosting providers.)
There are a variety of great web hosting services, which can sometimes be overwhelming for any new blogger. To help save you time, I’ll walk through one of my favorites, BlueHost. BlueHost is great for beginners, super easy to set up, and extremely affordable.
Let’s get into it!
The Details: BlueHost Reviews
If you’ve read other reviews on the best blog hosting sites, then you’ve probably noticed that BlueHost is usually at the top of the list. That’s because BlueHost is a great option for bloggers. BlueHost is the #1 recommendation of WordPress, hosting more than 2 million sites. It also comes loaded with tons of tutorials and guides that are super helpful for beginners.
The well-being of your website will depend on the provider you use. If you’re starting a blog, you’ll want to select a hosting site that meets your budget, technical requirements and suits your specific needs. BlueHost sits at the top of reviews for a variety of reasons. Let’s go over what makes them a great option now.
BlueHost Pricing For WordPress
BlueHost offers three WordPress hosting options — basic, plus, and choice plus.
• Basic, starting at $3.95/month, is a great option for new bloggers that are just getting started.
• Plus ($5.95/month) is perfect for people running multiple sites at once.
• Choice Plus ($6.95/month) is an excellent option for growing blog sites that may require added privacy and security features.
The beauty of BlueHost is that all the plans include a variety of awesome free features that will help improve the functionality of your blog:
• Automatic WordPress installation: Bluehost will automatically install and update the latest and most secure WordPress version.
• Easy step-by-step setup: BlueHost is great for beginners because of how easy-to-use and intuitive the software is.
• Free 24/7 customer support: On top of their online knowledge base full of web hosting help & support articles, BlueHost stands by ready to help at all hours.
• Free Domain Name for 1 Year: BlueHost will cover your domain name’s cost for the first year.
• Domain manager: It’s easy to update, transfer, purchase, and manage your domains all with BlueHost’s domain manager.
• SSL certificates: SSL certificates help keep personal information and sensitive data protected via encrypted connections.
• Google ads: As a bonus, you’ll also get a $100 Google Ads credit when you spend $25 on a campaign.
Your domain name is what people will type into their browser to search for and visit your blog. For example, the domain name of this site is:
When signing up for any BlueHost WordPress plan (Basic, Plus, or Choice Plus), you’ll receive a free BlueHost domain name for one year. You can select the domain name of your choice, provided that it’s not already taken. This is a great added benefit as some hosting services charge $10 to $20 per year.
The free domain name that BlueHost provides is a great low-cost way to start your dream blog.
Whether it’s super late or the early morning, BlueHost support is fast and friendly, available 24/7, and always there to help. Available via chat and phone, BlueHost support is easy to work with, quick to follow up with a resolution, and doesn’t speak with any technical jargon that’s hard to understand. There’s a good reason why BlueHost’s support receives the highest reviews and is consistently ranked as one of the best in the industry.
BlueHost’s webmail is a great added feature. All BlueHost WordPress plans come with free webmail and email accounts. This means you can create custom BlueHost webmail addresses with your blog name, such as:
With BlueHost webmail, you’ll be able to provide professional email addresses for anyone in your business. BlueHost’s Basic plan comes with the ability to create 5 different webmail email addresses, while the other plans provide unlimited email addresses.
Why BlueHost is Great For Bloggers

Getting Started With BlueHost
Starting your dream blog with BlueHost is super simple and will only take you a few minutes. If you run into any issues or have questions, contact BlueHost support and they’ll help set you up. Feel free to get started using my link below.
Step 1: Open Your BlueHost Account
To get started, navigate to the BlueHost website.
Next, click the dark blue “Get Started” button. This will take you to a page describing the different plan options as described above. If you’re just getting started, I recommend starting with the Basic plan. You can upgrade at any time if additional features are needed.
Once you select your web hosting plan, click “Select,” and you’ll land on the domain name page.
Step 2: Register for your free domain name
Now it’s time to create the name of your dream blog!
If you already have a name in mind, you can register for free in the “Create a new domain” section. Keep in mind — some of your favorite domain names may have already been taken. If you can’t find a name you like right now, select “I’ll create my domain later,” and you can reconsider after your hosting account is set up.
Step 3: Finalize your account
Next, enter all of your relevant account information. Be sure to double-check your email address, as this is where your login and account information is sent.
Secondly, select your hosting plan and duration. A longer plan will help to lock in a lower price. However, you’ll also be responsible for paying for everything in advance.
Next, you’ll have the option to select some additional services/features for your blog site under “Package Extras,” such as Codeguard Basic and BlueHost SEO Tools Start. You don’t need these to get started, however, down the road, they may be helpful to have. My suggestion is to start your blog without them and upgrade if they become necessary.
Lastly, enter your payment info, hit “Submit,” and BAM! Congratulations, you are now officially a member of the BlueHost community with your own blog site and hosting plan!
Step 4: Login and choose your WordPress theme
Once you complete your purchase, you’ll see a green button on the screen to create your password. Type in your desired password (always remember to store it somewhere safe), and then you’re good to go!
Now the fun part — it’s time to choose your WordPress theme for your new blog! BlueHost automatically installs WordPress themes for you, so there’s no extra work on your end.
If a theme catches your eye, click on it, and you can start to customize your site. If you’re not sure yet, you can skip this step and come back to it later.
Next, you’ll land in your BlueHost account dashboard, where you can manage your site, domain, and other important settings. Click on the blue “Log in to WordPress” button to access your blog.
This will take you to the login screen of your WordPress blog. Enter your username/email and password, and you’re good to go! Your WordPress site is now officially linked to your new blog site!
Step 5: WordPress blog dashboard
Once you’ve logged in in the previous step, you’ll see your WordPress Dashboard. This is where you’ll do all of your blog work , such as writing posts, uploading photos and videos, managing pages and comments, and customizing your site’s appearance and plugins.
And that’s pretty much it! Now that your WordPress site is linked to BlueHost, you’re free to start blogging away! If you want to learn more about starting your blog and what to write about, the link to my post will guide you through it all, step-by-step.
