Getting started as a new blogger can be overwhelming. From selecting your content management system (CMS) to choosing a web hosting site with great reviews, it’s all very confusing.

To help demystify the process, I have written this review of one of my favorite web hosting platforms, DreamHost.

Let’s start with the basics. If you’re starting a blog, the chances are good that you’re planning to use WordPress to get it up and running. WordPress is a great place to start; however, it’s just one piece of the puzzle. WordPress is a content management system — meaning this is where you’ll write and manage your ongoing blog content.

To get that content on the internet for people to see, you’ll need a company to “host” and install it on their server. That’s where a great web hosting company comes in, like you’ll find in this DreamHost review.

There are thousands of hosting services to choose from that all offer many of the same features and competitive pricing. So how do you choose the best one? Let’s walk through this DreamHost review of the best web hosting sites together to make this process a little less daunting. This DreamHost review will explain all of the features and value you get for their low monthly fee. Let’s get started!

The Details: DreamHost Web Hosting Review

DreamHost is a top-notch and highly reviewed web hosting provider that offers dependable hosting at an affordable price. Founded in 1996, DreamHost is home to more than 1.5 million websites and also comes recommended by WordPress.

DreamHost is optimized for WordPress and has been part of the community for more than 10 years for bloggers. DreamHost also offers great privacy and security. Due to its low price and high quality, DreamHost is ideal for new bloggers and website creators!

If you’re building your blog site, it’s critical to pick a hosting site that meets your needs. Although you can migrate your site later, this may cause headaches for you in the future.

DreamHost Pricing

DreamHost pricing plans

Like other web hosting reviews, DreamHost offers three different packages — Starter, DreamPress, and VPS.

• Starter ($2.59/month) is a great place to start. The low entry price makes it perfect for new bloggers and website owners.

• DreamPress ($16.95/month) is specifically optimized for WordPress and includes a variety of features that the other two plans don’t offer.

• VPS ($27.50/month) is excellent for new and small businesses that need higher-performance and the ability to manage more than one website.

• Automated integrations: DreamHost offers automatic WordPress integrations and one-click installations.

• Comprehensive 24/7 customer support: There are two ways to contact DreamHost support — via DreamHost login on your control panel or through live chat and email support.

• Website builder: All DreamHost plans include a WordPress site builder, which allows you to build a site using a simple, drag-and-drop interface.

DreamHost Domain

Once you get your DreamHost login, you’ll see that the Starter and DreamPress packages come with a free domain for a full year. With the VPS plan, you can easily add domains through the DreamHost login.

DreamHost Webmail

DreamHost webmail is available for free with both the DreamPress and VPS plans. This means you can create an unlimited number of professional DreamHost webmail addresses for FREE. With DreamHost’s Starter package, you can add webmail for as low as $1.67 per month.

Getting Started With DreamHost

Getting your blog site up and running with DreamHost is quick and painless. Feel free to get started using my link below.

Step 1: Open your DreamHost account

To get started, navigate to the DreamHost website.

Next, click the orange “Hosting” tab in the banner at the top of the page. This will take you to the plan description page that we went over previously. If you’re a beginner, my recommendation is to go with the Starter plan. It’s affordably priced, comes with great features, and is perfect for newbies.

Once you’ve decided on your ideal web hosting plan (Starter, DreamPress, VPS), click the blue “Sign Up Now” button at the bottom of the plan box. This will take you to the domain name page.

Step 2: Register for your free domain name

If you selected the Starter or DreamPress plans, you’d see “FREE domain with all annual terms!” in the middle of the screen.

If you have a name in mind, select “Register a new domain” and type it into the box. If the name is unavailable, DreamHost will automatically suggest similar available domain names.

If you already have a domain that you’re planning to migrate to DreamHost, select “I already have a domain” and enter your site name. Additionally, if you’re not sure about the name of your site just yet, select “Choose a domain later,” and you can come back to it once you get your DreamHost login.

Step 3: Finalize your account

Next, enter all of your relevant account and checkout information.

Lastly, there are a few optional features under the “Additional Options” section. Be sure that Pre-Install WordPress and WP Website Builder are both checked. Additionally, you can add DreamShield Protection, an SEO Toolkit, Email, and even a Google Workspace if you need it.

Once you’ve selected everything, double-check your information on the right side of the screen. Make sure your plan name is correct, the billing period, and the package options are also correct.

Once everything looks right, select the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page, and you’re good to go. Congrats, you’re one step closer to making your website LIVE for the world to see!

Once you complete your purchase, you’ll be sent to the DreamHost dashboard where you can login and link your WordPress account to your DreamHost site.

Once complete, if you select “WordPress” on the left-hand panel, you’ll be taken to your WordPress dashboard. This is where you’ll write posts, manage comments, and handle ongoing blog content creation.

Step 5: Select your WordPress theme

Now it’s time to choose your WordPress theme for your new blog! The good news is that DreamHost offers hundreds of professional, responsive designs that are easily customizable with their WP Website Builder.

To add a theme, visit your site, navigate to “Appearance” then “Themes.” Then click on the “Add New” button. You’ll be presented with a theme directory where you can select, install, and customize any theme of your preference.

And that’s pretty much it! Your WordPress site is linked to your DreamHost account, you’ve got your theme up and running, and you’re reading to start blogging!
